Preparation for Computer Skill Competency Assessment

Session Description:
The Computer Skill Competency assessment is offered as part of the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators. The GACE test is an Internet-based test that is designed to enable individuals and school districts to satisfy the legislated computer competency requirement for educators. This class will overview the content areas of the test, which includes the basic operation, concepts and issues related to computer-based technology and electronic communications, using technology-based productivity tools, and integrating technology into the classroom.  Test taking skills and practice test will be included in the session.

Join a motivated fledgling community of FIRST LEGO League (FLL) enthusiasts to establish a forum for sponsorship of the Chattahoochee Valley’s first regionally hosted FLL robotics competitions! The FLL is an international program for teams of up to 10 children ages 9-14. FLL competitions require children to design and deliver hands-on, interactive robotics demonstrations and research presentations in a sports-like atmosphere. All FLL teams must prepare for and participate in FLL Qualifier Tournaments to proceed to the Georgia FLL Championship. The Chattahoochee Valley does not sponsor such an event…YET! Join Frank Braski, local FLL coach, with CSU professors, local Instructional Technology Specialists and experienced parent supporters to learn how your teachers, schools, community organizations and businesses can contribute to the organization and maintenance of the Chattahoochee Valley FIRST LEGO League!

You do not have to be an Apple computer user to take advantage of Podcasting! Using many free tools, podcasting is open to all regardless of your computer platform.

Dr. Jamie McKenzie, internationally acclaimed author of Learning to Question to Wonder to Learn and the popular e-Zine, The Question Mark, presents "No Time Slam Dunk Digital Lessons and Demanding Questions and Intense Lesson Design." The workshop will be in two parts. In the morning, you will learn how to construct highly demanding lessons in no time at all, combining challenging questions with fertile digital resources. These brief 30-40 minute lessons are meant to slide comfortably into existing units of study where they enhance learning. They are designed to match the busy work life of   teachers, allowing lessons development on a Wednesday night for a Thursday morning. Session Description:
Digital Photography is an exciting and engaging activity that teachers can introduce in the classroom at all grade levels and subject areas. Learn basic digital photographic techniques and skills during this hands-on workshop. Discover exciting and engaging activities that classroom teachers can incorporate in the curriculum on any grade level. Participants will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop Elements, an image manipulation program that is a less expensive version of Adobe Photoshop and is better suited for educators. It provides a relatively simple user interface that teacher and students can learn without having to spend an inordinate amount of time practicing. Plus, Freeware image manipulation programs such as Picasa will be discussed. Participants will use the photographic images that they produced and compose a digital story using Windows PhotoStory.

Many of us are familiar with Mr. Wizard and Steve Spangler (the TV Science Guy). Terry & Larry don’t have the fame of these two television personalities, but they do know science and how to incorporate interesting and fun activities into your science curriculum. This course will offer a full day of science activities that will engage students and enhance student learning. Plus, most of these activities can be created with materials and supplies that are inexpensive and easy to find. Participants will be involved with such activities as: Science with Toys, Energy in Our Life, The Science of Cooking, Light and Energy, Using Science in Sports, and Digital Microscope activities. Those attending will leave with activities they can use immediately in the classroom
