Van Montesclaros
Information Technology Specialist
Van Montesclaros is the Information Technology Specialist for the Center for Quality Teaching and
Learning at Columbus State University. His responsibilities include systems administration/engineering,
technical training, R&D, consulting, lab maintenance, and A/V and end-user support. Working cooperatively
as part of the Educational Technology Training Center, Van maintains involvement with initiatives from the
Georgia Department of Education, such as the deployment of wireless technologies, annual statewide technology
conferences, and support of 17 school systems in southwestern Georgia. Raised in Columbus, Van started his
technical interests early, having co-founded the first computer club at his junior high school and learning how to
program in BASIC using a Commodore 64. Van went on to expand his technical skills at Columbus
State University where he graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
While still in college, Van left an accounting position at AFLAC Inc. to be a computer operator
at Merrill Lynch, serving as only the seventh candidate to be accepted into the CSU Cooperative
Education program. Prior to joining the CQTL in July of 2004, Van worked with the Technology
Division of Synovus Financial Corp. for nine years, where he held positions as a Network
Operations Analyst, a Communications Manager, and a Senior Help Desk Analyst, in support of a
network that spanned five states, 300 servers, and 5,000 users. Van is a Microsoft Certified
Systems Administrator and a Certified Wireless Network Administrator.
